Xenophobia in the fight against discrimination against Venezuelans in Peru
Since the Venezuelans set foot on Peruvian soil, it has always been a problem, and this has become a general problem in Peru. The stereotypes and prejudices that exist towards Venezuelan people in Peru have been increasing and consolidating in a really negative dimension, this causes the same Venezuelan people to have the latent fear of being able to be discriminated at any time and not be accepted in any media by part of us as Peruvians. Peruvians with the passage of time have tended to discriminate against many Venezuelans, whether they are good or bad, now we are prone to discriminate and that in one way or another is wrong. Will the discrimination against them end? When will something be done to end this problem? Can you live and work in Peru as a foreigner?
The efforts made by the Executive Power of Peru for this problem are very poor, only communiqués are issued in which they do not transmit any resolution for it, these issues are worrying and more so if we live in such a discriminatory country, if we ourselves as Peruvians feel They discriminate, let's imagine what they are told or done to Venezuelans, in one way or another their rights are violated, but they are not in their country, and for this reason little or nothing is done for them. Peru is a multicultural country that has been integrating migrants of many origins and nationalities into its national life. So far in 2023, around 1.6 million Venezuelans have entered, making us the second country receiving this population.
Many of the 1.6 million Venezuelans are young, where many of them tend to look for work to cover personal expenses or to cover family expenses, we say this, since Venezuelans have taken jobs from Peruvians in one way or another, in jobs formal and informal, when Peruvians see this they are tempted to indignation, since according to them they are the ones who should work and be in the place of Venezuelans, and yes, they have the right to say that, but Venezuelans also have the right to work formally or informally, if they can do it, they do it, Peruvians in these cases are prejudiced and selfish, I think we have always lived in a discriminatory society and without a bit of empathy for other people, we believe that this is where discrimination and hatred begin for them, not respecting or accepting that in some cases Venezuelans can work and get ahead, is complex and creates a bigger problem. Many Peruvians believe that by discriminating we gain something, but no, the only thing we gain is the repudiation of Venezuelans and that brings many consequences, such as violence, this being a separate issue and returning to the other, we believe that Peruvians must improve a lot and not Only we, but also the entities or organizations themselves, have to advance as the country as a whole and that the effort of the Executive Power be greater to be able to advance and thus there is no such discrimination, creating strategies such as talks would be one of the solutions, the Venezuelans are discriminated against in various environments, on the street, at work and are not supported by our government, we have to improve as a society, as a country, and we all know it.
